Jaliya Records is excited to announce the release of "Calculer," the latest single from renowned Afro-folk duo Sousou & Maher Cissoko. Known for their soulful blend of West African musical traditions with global influences, the couple returns with a thought-provoking track that speaks to the heart of mindful communication.

Recorded at Fayah Bonduff Studio in Kolda, Senegal, with additional sessions in Sweden and Norway, "Calculer" is a vibrant fusion of Mandinka and French lyrics, underpinned by the rhythmic richness of the kora, other instruments and beats. The track was produced by Sousou & Maher Cissoko, expertly mixed by Daniel Wold and mastered by Espen Høydalsvik at Oslo Fuzz, Norway. Single cover by Cecilia Höglund.

About "Calculer"

At its core, "Calculer" is a call to action and mindfulness. The title, which means "to calculate" or "to think carefully," reflects the song's central theme: the importance of weighing our words before we speak. Through a compelling narrative, the song contrasts the purposeful journey of a traveler with the idle complaints of those who do nothing.

Lyrics like "Tamala bala, Tamo la" (The traveler is traveling) and "Silla be, Balang ding" (The one who is sitting and talking being lazy), emphasize the value of action over empty words.

Sousou & Maher Cissoko's unique blend of rhythmic pulse and melodic grace brings this message to life, offering a universal reminder of the impact our words can have.
